- Background check. I consent to a criminal background check, including fingerprinting where Texas law or the Texas Education Agency requires it, before I work with students, and I will not volunteer with students until it is complete.
- With staff, always. I volunteer alongside staff and follow their direction. I am never alone with a student, I never take a student anywhere, and I never contact a student outside the program.
- Sign in. I sign in and out at the center every time, and I wear what identifies me as a volunteer.
- Reporting. Texas law requires every adult to report suspected abuse or neglect of a child. I will tell a staff member at once, and I will never investigate on my own.
- Confidentiality. Anything I learn about a student or a family stays at the program, which shares student records only with the Texas Education Agency and the grant's evaluator as the privacy notice allows. I never post or discuss it.
- Photos. I do not take photos of students. The program takes the photos it needs, of students whose families said yes.
- Technology and AI. I follow the student agreement's rules myself: a student uses AI only with staff in the room, and I never set up an account or a tool for a student.
- Respect. I treat every student, family and staff member with respect, in the language they speak.
- My information. I read the privacy notice; the program keeps my form and my background check result as it says.
- Activities and safety rules. Train 2 Reach℠ is hands-on: hand tools, 3D printers, soldering irons, electronics and robots in the maker lab and workshops; art and snack making; active games; the bus and the walk between the school, the bus and the center; field trips and business visits. Staff lead every activity and I help. I follow the program's safety rules and the direction of the staff member in charge. I use a tool only as staff show me, I wear the protection the program gives, I stop when staff say stop, and I tell a staff member at once about any injury or broken tool.
- Risk and medical care. I understand that volunteering here has ordinary risks, such as a cut, a burn, a strain or a fall, and I accept them for myself. If I am hurt or sick and cannot speak for myself, I consent to emergency medical care and transport for me, and I pay any cost my own insurance does not cover. Byrd EDU carries liability insurance for the program.
- RELEASE, INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE. To the fullest extent Texas law allows, I release Byrd EDU, its board, staff, volunteers and partners from any claim for my own injury, illness or loss that comes from my volunteer service, INCLUDING A CLAIM CAUSED BY THEIR OWN NEGLIGENCE, and I agree not to sue them on a claim this release covers. This release does not cover gross negligence, willful misconduct, or anything the law does not allow to be released.
- Personal responsibility. I am personally responsible for knowing and following the program's safety rules and Byrd EDU's Child Safety and Operations Policy. An act of mine outside those rules, outside the duties staff give me, or against a staff member's instruction is my own act and not the program's. I agree to indemnify and hold harmless (pay back and protect) Byrd EDU, its board and the program for any loss, claim and cost, including reasonable lawyers' fees, that comes from my willful misconduct, my gross negligence, a crime I commit, or my knowing violation of the safety rules or the Child Safety and Operations Policy. A knowing violation is grounds for my immediate removal from the program.
- Volunteer protection under Texas law. Texas's Charitable Immunity and Liability Act gives protections to a volunteer of a charitable organization who acts in good faith and within the course and scope of the volunteer's duties. Acting outside my assigned duties is outside that protection, and so is conduct the Act does not protect, such as an intentional or willfully negligent act or conscious indifference to the safety of others; knowingly breaking the safety rules can be that conduct.

- Reportes. La ley de Texas exige que todo adulto reporte la sospecha de abuso o negligencia de un niño. Se lo diré de inmediato a un miembro del personal, y nunca investigaré por mi cuenta.
- Confidencialidad. Todo lo que aprenda sobre un estudiante o una familia se queda en el programa, que comparte los registros de estudiantes solo con la Agencia de Educación de Texas y el evaluador de la subvención como lo permite el aviso de privacidad. Nunca lo publico ni lo comento.
- Fotos. No tomo fotos de estudiantes. El programa toma las fotos que necesita, de estudiantes cuyas familias dijeron que sí.
- Tecnología e IA. Sigo yo mismo las reglas del acuerdo del estudiante: un estudiante usa la IA solo con personal en el salón, y nunca creo una cuenta ni una herramienta para un estudiante.
- Respeto. Trato a cada estudiante, familia y miembro del personal con respeto, en el idioma que hablan.
- Mi información. Leí el aviso de privacidad; el programa guarda mi formulario y el resultado de mi verificación de antecedentes como allí se dice.
- Actividades y reglas de seguridad. Train 2 Reach℠ es práctico: herramientas de mano, impresoras 3D, cautines para soldar, componentes electrónicos y robots en el laboratorio de creación y en los talleres; arte y preparación de meriendas; juegos activos; el autobús y la caminata entre la escuela, el autobús y el centro; excursiones y visitas a negocios. El personal dirige cada actividad y yo ayudo. Sigo las reglas de seguridad del programa y las indicaciones del miembro del personal a cargo. Uso una herramienta solo como el personal me enseña, uso la protección que da el programa, me detengo cuando el personal dice alto, y aviso de inmediato a un miembro del personal de cualquier lesión o herramienta rota.
- Riesgos y atención médica. Entiendo que ser voluntario aquí tiene riesgos comunes, como una cortada, una quemadura, una torcedura o una caída, y los acepto para mí. Si me lastimo o me enfermo y no puedo hablar por mí mismo, doy mi consentimiento para recibir atención médica de emergencia y transporte, y pago cualquier costo que mi propio seguro no cubra. Byrd EDU tiene un seguro de responsabilidad civil para el programa.
- LIBERACIÓN DE RESPONSABILIDAD, INCLUIDA LA NEGLIGENCIA. En la medida más amplia que permite la ley de Texas, libero a Byrd EDU, a su junta, a su personal, a sus voluntarios y a sus socios de cualquier reclamo por mi propia lesión, enfermedad o pérdida que surja de mi servicio voluntario, INCLUIDO UN RECLAMO CAUSADO POR SU PROPIA NEGLIGENCIA, y acepto no demandarlos por un reclamo que esta liberación cubra. Esta liberación no cubre la negligencia grave, la mala conducta intencional ni nada que la ley no permita liberar.
- Responsabilidad personal. Soy personalmente responsable de conocer y seguir las reglas de seguridad del programa y la Política de Seguridad Infantil y Operaciones de Byrd EDU. Un acto mío fuera de esas reglas, fuera de las funciones que me da el personal o en contra de la instrucción de un miembro del personal es un acto mío y no del programa. Acepto indemnizar y mantener libres de daño (hold harmless), es decir, reembolsar y proteger, a Byrd EDU, a su junta y al programa por cualquier pérdida, reclamo y costo, incluidos los honorarios razonables de abogados, que surja de mi mala conducta intencional, mi negligencia grave, un delito que yo cometa, o mi violación a sabiendas de las reglas de seguridad o de la Política de Seguridad Infantil y Operaciones. Una violación a sabiendas es motivo para retirarme de inmediato del programa.
- La protección del voluntario bajo la ley de Texas. La Ley de Inmunidad y Responsabilidad Caritativa de Texas (Charitable Immunity and Liability Act) da protecciones al voluntario de una organización caritativa que actúa de buena fe y dentro del curso y el alcance de sus funciones como voluntario. Actuar fuera de mis funciones asignadas queda fuera de esa protección, y también la conducta que la ley no protege, como un acto intencional o con negligencia deliberada, o la indiferencia consciente ante la seguridad de otros; romper a sabiendas las reglas de seguridad puede ser esa conducta.
